The Committee Meeting Wed 19th April

This last meeting before the AGM is the time to ensure that the house is in order before the big hand-over. Dave Clack was reported to be in the process of auditing the accounts. Gordon Robson presented a comprehensive list of proposals regarding our Summer outings programme for consideration; Tony Redford presented the finished syllabus, ready printed; and reported on his efforts to ensure that he had a committee for the next session. Most committee members were willing to continue their positions, if asked. Sheila Edwards explained that other commitments meant she would be unable to continue on the committee and was thanked for her participation over the years. [Can it really be true that she has been a member for 33 Years? This beats Tony’s 30 years and Colin Pickles’ 30+ years] Though Colin agreed to continue as Social Secretary for another year he gave notice that we may have to look for an alternative after that.

Bill Chadband reported that David Butler (of Wigan 10) would be our Exhibition judge for 2007, and Richard Spiers would judge the Digital Print Competition. Noting that most prints were produced digitally nowadays some members questioned whether it was necessary/appropriate to continue to use the word “digital” in the title. Bill could see no harm in retaining the title and felt that its scope was well established and well understood, and that there was no advantage in the proposed change.

Colin and Jon Bawden were concerned that we should continue to promote film slide images, even though their number was diminishing. Some of our members only used slide film. It was agreed that we should do so, whilst recognising the long-term trend to project digital images using digital projectors. There was still life in the film slide show!

We had not yet been asked to participate in the Poynton Show, but in view of their disaster last year with an official professional photographer, we might well be asked. On a show of hands there were sufficient folk available that we could agree to do so if asked.

Barry had raised, at the last meeting, the question of reviewing the rules re Categories, Print sizes, and Panorama pictures. He was looking for progress. A lively discussion ensued with some members asking for more time since they had not seen the more detailed proposals, which Barry had circulated. It was finally agreed that a sub-committee be formed to consider the issues in detail and report back. The sub-committee consists of Tony Redford (as chairman) Barry Pearson, Jonathan Bawden, Roger Dye, Gordon Robson, Brian Turnbull, Richard Scaife and Bill Chadband. Club members are invited to make their views known to any of these names.

Richard Scaife noted that we again had the opportunity to display prints in the Poynton Library from the end of May til 10th June.

The first meeting of the new committee was set for Wednesday 26th July 7.30pm at the Redford’s house.
