The Committee Meeting held Wednesday 15th March 2006

The main business of the meeting was to review the Annual Exhibition and consider how it might be improved next year. The Exhibition Co-ordinator reported that the organisation and delegation of responsibilities had worked well, with no serious adverse criticism. Members had responded well to calls for Raffle prizes; Sponsorship had increased; the serving of refreshments had been brisk and efficient, and with the new door charges including refreshments the exhibition had more than covered its costs.

Looking to the 2007 Exhibition it was agreed that, as only 144 prints could be hung, the maximum Print entry would be limited to seven. This would probably still produce a small excess, but not the 50 excess of the 2006 exhibition. The suggestion was made that images of Poynton and surrounding district might be used in some way to attract local people to the exhibition.

Further consideration of how to involve the local population revived the idea of having a Sale of Prints (with Coffee morning?) on the Saturday.

It was noted that NCPS had received much kudos from being in the vanguard with our inter-club Digital Print Competition, and we should similarly embrace the field of the digitally projected image. In the longer term it was probable that digitally projected images would replace the slide-show as the big screen norm..

Richard had booked the Main Hall from the 14th February 2007 for the start of the Exhibition. Jonathan Bawden reported on how points were allocated for the Exhibition Competition. Commended=2; HC=3; VHC=4; Best in Section=5; with an additional 5 maximum for any other additional awards. Jonathan would update the Competition Rules. It was noted that entries were now predominately in the Pictorial Section, and that it might be time to abolish sections and have effectively one Open section for the Exhibition. A minor problem then would be what to do with the various section trophies and cups we had accrued.

Geoff Robinson agreed to do another Portrait evening for the Club.

It was noted that the 2006 AGM would be on Tuesday 16th May 2006.

It was reported that the Professional Photographers, appointed by the Poynton Show to produce Show images, had failed to turn up. The Show Organisers were reported to be asking NCPS to again undertake this task. Whether we accept, or not , would depend on who was available.

Barry Pearson raised the matter of Rules for Prints and Mounts, and the differences between NCPS Quarterly competition, Annual Exhibition, and L&CPU requirements. As recent new member he found them confusing and suggested that we might consider clarifications. Maximum Mount sizes were either 20x16 inches; 22.5 x16.25 inches or 50x40 cm.. Minimum print size was 75 square inches; 10x8 inches; 80 sq inches, or A4 sheet paper size. L&CPU required no sticky tape on the backs of prints.

Some rules are to protect other prints in a box of prints. One might suppose these should be universal. Some rules are for the administrative convenience of the Club (Prints have to fit in the box, or be mounted on the light box, or pinned to the exhibition stands) and relate to physical limitations. Panoramas are an interesting case. What limits should be set? They must presumably fit in the box for carrying, and fit reasonably on the stands for exhibitions. Barry called for general discussion and subsequent action.

The next committee meeting was set for Wednesday 19th April 2006 chez Richard Scaife.
