L&CPU AGM

Joyce and Gordon Robson and Bill Chadband represented NCPS at the L&CPU AGM at Ormskirk on Saturday 25 February 2006. We discovered from Secretary Christine Widdall that membership had risen from 3043 to 3181 – the first increase for 10 years; and that the operation to separate John Dougherty and Bob Dennis had been a success! John Dougherty would be leaving the committee after a decade and a half of service. Treasurer Norman Thompson proposed a 15p increase in L&CPU subs to £3.45 per member (agreed by the AGM) and recounted the difficulties caused by late paying clubs. This included delaying the printing of the L&CPU Booklet. Bob Dennis (Lecturers and Judges Secretary) noted the loss of three Judges and three lecturers from the list last session. He was aware that there were lecturers, not on the list, used by clubs and appealed for information about good lecturers. Let Bob know and he will approach them about joining the list. Another Judging seminar had been arranged for Saturday 25th March 2006 at St George’s Hall, Oakenrod Hill, Bury Rd, Rochdale to encourage new and relatively new judges. Bob also noted that lecturers, booked for a talk, should receive a reminder letter with instructions as to how to find the meeting place on the night (and noting any roadworks to avoid!)

John Smith recounted the trials of an Exhibitions secretary both in finding suitable rooms, and in arranging the exhibitions. He thanked his loyal band of helpers over the past session. As Focal Points editor he made his regular plea for clubs to let him know what they were doing.

Keith Suddaby is the events secretary. On Sunday 19th March 2006 a Big Day at Lancaster is “TOWERING TEACH-IN”. On Sunday 8th October 2006 the BIG Day of “FIND YOUR WAY “ is a day with the Ordnance Survey Photographic Society.

The Prints and slides Folios were a service to clubs but were not easy to administer. Prints were bulky to transport and original slides were copied by David Marsh, but not forever (and his copy slide material would likely get rarer and more expensive. The idea of putting these Folios on Disc for Digital projection would save money and make life a lot easier. Most clubs now had access to digital projectors. L&CPU had had limited positive feedback for the idea from clubs but he would like all clubs to consider this and let the L&CPU know their feelings. Discs would be easy and cheap to distribute and would not have to be returned..

PAGB representative, Gordon Jenkins pointed to the several trophies which L&CPU had won recently and commented that it was a great time to be our Rep. He noted that clubs should send their syllabus plus notice of club outings to the L&CPU Treasurer. Once logged, the clubs would be covered by the L&CPU Insurance. Linda Topping was re-elected as L&CPU Auditor. The date of the next AGM was set as Saturday 24th February 2007. The delegates had tea before the meeting, and tea and biscuits to round off the afternoon.
