[Unfortunately the mail from South America was delayed !]

A Happy Christmas to everyone, and all good wishes for the New Year!

And a collective Thank You to all our friends, who, being much better organised than I, have sent us some lovely cards. We have been on a month’s cruising along the Amazon and down the East coast of South America – not to be recommended if you don’t like the heat – most days were in the 90’s We came to the conclusion that one big city looks very much like another, with blocks of high-rise flats and numerous churches, museums and markets.

We cruised hundreds of miles overlooking scrub vegetation, and we were informed that the area was one of the world’s greatest rain forests. Fred said that one tree looked very much like another to him. But at least we heard a monkey twittering amongst the trees, and saw some extraordinary animals in the wildlife park.. The famous statue of Christ the Redeemer at Rio de Janeiro had, would you believe, scaffolding around it, and the Argentinian bag handlers and ground staff at the airport were on strike. All fun and games!! I did, however, get a few interesting photos. One was of some colourful graffiti in Brazil, the writing on which, when interpreted, apparently read “For the sake of Love, use a condom!! I thought I might put it in the annual exhibition, as no-one, as far as I know, speaks Brazilian.

I am no hobbling around on crutches, having just had an operation for a nerve tumour (benign) in my foot.

See you all sometime in the new Year!

Sheila
