A Day Out in Hatch End (Harrow) 26th November 2005

No, not the venue for an NCPS winter expedition, but assessment day for the PAGE awards.I had applied for the credit level. I had diligently selected my 10 prints aided by Dorothy and Tony Redford and David Akers, and turned up at the Harrow Arts Centre with 15 minutes to spare to the deadline for handing in. During the day I saw 80 slides and 400+ prints at the credit level and approximately 80 prints at the master level. I would have liked more time to appreciate many of the images, but with between 5 and 10 seconds normally for assessment by the 6 judges this was not possible. However they did request a closer view of some prints, giving them the once over at very close range, as per NCPS judging. Comments would have been helpful but obviously not possible because of the time factor.

There were lots of birds, including puffins and penguins, steam trains, portraits, landscapes, barns, still life images, records, hippos, lions and zebra, and many other subjects which we are used to seeing at NCPS. The highest marks were gained by a minimalist landscape and 2 very dark and contrasty monochrome portraits.

My 10 prints included 1 monochrome silver image, 2 monochrome digital images, and 7 colour digital images. Only one of my prints scored below 20 and I achieved a total of 219 marks out of 300. The pass mark being 200 1 am pleased now to be able to use the letters CPAGB after my name.
