Second Quarterly Competition 22 November | |||

Jack Byatt from Romiley Club was our judge for this competition and we were lucky to get him on the night. His car had been involved in an accident and he was without transport. When his lift tried the road to Marple from Romiley he found it blocked (Gas leak?). But he arrived safely and in good time via Stockport. An immediate question was How would he get back? This depended, advised several old hands, on how well he judged the competition. It would be foolish to give poor marks to anyone willing to give him a lift home! Jack’s dilemma of course was that he did not know which image belonged to which worker; and apparently being a little deaf, he was unable to hear the significant coughs, which might have assisted him.. But we are a generous bunch at NCPS and despite the mediocre marks received, his lift galantly forsook the pint at the Grapes in favour of the Romiley trip. But it was even harder getting into Romiley than escaping. The A6 end of Torkington Road was also closed when we got there, necessitating a diversion along Commercial Road and Bean Leach Road. The second diversion at Dan Bank favoured the route through Marple and Compstall. What of the Competition? Because print numbers well exceeded the 50 mark all the number 5’s were withdrawn This still left 60 images to be considered. The judge proceeded in his usual competent manner, commenting on each image, until reminded by Roger that because of the large entry we were running late. So Jack obliged by doubling the speed with which he dealt with each print. Having commented on the prints before tea break, he quickly marked them following the tea break; and then dealt with the reduced number of slides (only 23). The marks awarded are shown below:
