L&CPU Centenary Year

The nearest date that I can find is that the inaugural meeting of the Union was 6th November 1905. To celebrate our centenary L&CPU is organising an exhibition of 150 pictures from the archive, from 1855 to the present day, at a number of galleries over the next two years. In addition, an A4 book of some 68 pages containing about 50 images from the exhibition is being printed. We are hoping it will sell sufficiently well to cover some of the exhibition costs. The exhibition will be opened at Salford Museum and Art Gallery (on the Crescent) at 2.30pm on Saturday 5th November by PAGB President Ron Whelans. It remains at Salford until 15th January and then goes on the following tour:

2nd February to 8th April Preston Museum

14th April to 2nd July Helmshore Mills Textile Museum

9th July to 18th September Lancaster Maritime Museum

2nd October to 28th December Nantwich Museum

1st March 07 to 29th June 07 Tatton Park

3rd July 07 to 28th September 07 Macclesfield Silk Ind Museum

Oct 07 to Dec 07 Runcorn Norton Priory Museum

Jan 08 to end March 08 North wich Salt Museum

The L&CPU archive contains over 1200 pictures, and the exhibition has been picked to show the best of them whilst at the same time illustrating some of the historic aspects, and to show how photographic styles have changed over the century.
