Committee Meeting 29 September 2005

The meeting was held at Hawk Green Reading Room. Prior to the meeting the Selection Committee met to consider entries to the forthcoming L&CPU and Chapel competitions.

The main Agenda Item was the forthcoming monthly Digital presentations at the Community Centre. Bill Chadband had agreed to do the first one, based upon “Which Digital Camera?”. Brian Turnbull agreed to be responsible for the 2nd one, and Bill reported that Jon Allanson had been invited to organise the 3rd meeting. Brian had produced a suggested syllabus covering the first four meetings. Bill had emailed this to several club members who might be willing to participate as presenters in the series. A basic difficulty, at the beginning, was to know who might attend the meetings, and therefore what level to pitch it at. Tony Redford emphasised that we were trying to encourage people to join the Society and must not put them off by being too technical. Brian’s proposed syllabus had split between the Science (technique) of photography and the Art of Photography. Folk would best improve their photographic skills by joining the club and observing the work of others. Ideally the digital sessions would be run as a forum with general audience participation, but experience had shown that all too often the audience remained silent, awaiting the next pearls of wisdom from the “presenter”. If we were not to go in circles (using a variety of presenters) we needed to have an outline schematic for the seven sessions. There was general agreement to Barry Pearson’s suggestion that members should be invited to bring along “before” and “after” prints, at every session, to show how members had used digital software to improve their images.
