More SUCCESS for NCPS

The annual inter-club slide competition held at Romiley Forum on Friday 15th April 05 attracted 10 clubs, each submitting 6 slides to be judged, as usual, by the popular local photographer John Holland. Top club this year – North Cheshire Photographic Society!

Full results for the event, organised by the Romiley club as part of their exhibition week, appear below.

Because of the time factor, the six NCPS slides were selected single-handedly by our competition secretary, Roger Dye (who needs a selection committee?). Roger didn’t have a great many to choose from. He was also unaware of the judge’s predilection to “people pictures” – John Holland spent his working life as a photojournalist for the Manchester Evening News – and only one (possibly two) of our slides featured people. It didn’t matter. John admitted to having mellowed and to becoming more tolerant to most club photography anyway. Although he did still show a preference towards humour or pictures which told a story, and a distinct coolness to natural history subjects, his appreciation of a good landscape also became apparent.

It was an entertaining evening and a pity that, despite an entry from ten clubs, there were considerably fewer than 40 people in the room. Our unusually small contingent of four supporters was therefore above the average, and we still managed to make our approval obvious as Dorothy collected the impressive silver trophy on behalf of NCPS.
