The Committee Meeting 19th January 2005 |

Gordon reported satisfactory progress in the arrangements for the Annual Exhibition which takes place from the 9th to the 11th February 2005. The results of the judging by Tony Pioli of 151 prints and 115 slides (which took place on Sunday 16th January at the Hazel Grove Bowling and Tennis Club) were made available to members on the following Tuesday club night. Geoff Robinson has won the Prism Trophy for the Best Overall Performance narrowly beating Tony Redford who receives the award for the Best Print in the Exhibition. The committee recorded their thanks to the judge and to the team of helpers. Joyce Streets has the typing and design of the exhibition catalogue in hand. The Committee will consider whether to introduce a Monochrome Pictorial Print category in next years exhibition for the Rosalind Bramley Trophy (at present it is judged by members on a club evening). Following the AGM on 11th May 2004 the Committee had discussed the question of the engraving of trophies. The topic had been raised by Brian Bower as minute extract below indicates: “ Brian Bower was disappointed to see we don’t get the trophies (awarded at the Exhibition) engraved, especially the Prism trophy (which he gave to the Club). Gordon said we now award a certificate as most of the trophies are full. The matter will be taken back to the committee for discussion on keeping the trophies up to date with engraving. Brian stated he would be prepared to pay for having the Prism trophy engraved himself.” The original decision regarding the engraving of trophies came from the discussion at the AGM 23th May 2000. The subsequent Committee meeting (18th October 2000) had confirmed that due to the high cost of engraving and because there was insufficient room on many of the trophies, no trophies would be engraved in future instead certificates would be issued which included the names of all previous winners. The topic was fully discussed again and it was unanimously agreed that with the exception of The Presidents` Trophy (which gives a complete record of all Past Presidents) and the Prism Trophy (for Best Performance in the Exhibition), no other trophies would be engraved. Consideration was given to recipients having the option of paying for the engraving of trophies they had won but this was vetoed on the grounds of lack of space on many of the trophies and the potential problems of “gap years”. The engraving of the President’s and Prism trophies would be paid for by the Society, Roger Dye who was voted on to the Committee as the new Competition Secretary, under the guidance of Tony Redford, is designing a more prestigious certificate for 2006, suitable for framing and display. The Committee approved the design of an A4 poster (20 copies) for the Friday night presentation by Andy Lound and a general A5 “flyer”(30copies) for handing out and at the preceding Digital Forum. Frank Hutchinson has the other publicity in hand and will arrange for the distribution of the posters. Richard is meeting Andy Lound at Macclesfield and providing transport to and from the Civic Hall and the local Travel Lodge. The President informed the meeting that the Civic Centre proposed to renovate the toilet facilities over the next 6-8 weeks, starting at the beginning of February, and that only one disabled toilet would be available over this period. Since this would be completely unacceptable during the Exhibition period Richard proposed to discuss the problem with the Authorities. The Society had proposed also that we could leave the exhibition up on the Saturday morning, for free viewing by the local public, if we did not have to pay for this action. The Civic Centre will confirm whether or not the Civic Hall will be provided f.o.c on 31.st January. Some publicity has gone ahead based on a positive response. Sponsorship of the exhibition would be along the same lines as last year. Colin was hoping that Perigrination Travel would make up for the loss of Bob Rigby Photographic and E.N.J.A.Y. Mountboard. Other likely sponsors are Base Camp; Kee-Jet Inkjet Paper and Jessops. Gordon Robson (Exhibition Secretary) |
