The Great Anglo-Scottish Battle at Keswick 2005

Make a note in your diary that this event will take place on Saturday 5th November 2005. As a result of the many constructive suggestions made following last year’s competition, which it was felt was becoming a victim of its own success, certain important changes have been made as regards the staging of the 2005 battle.

1) The competition will commence at 4.00pm on the Saturday, at the usual venue – Portinscale Village Hall – (which has been booked from 3.00pm until 7.00pm.)

2) Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) will be provided at the hall after the judging.

3) At this time, the prints will be laid out on tables for closer scrutiny by all those present.

4) The judge will be Richard Spiers, whose pithy comments and knowledgeable assessments were so well received the year before last.

5) Evening meal will be taken at the hotel following the competition.

These changes will benefit everyone, in that ample opportunity will exist for a more leisurely perusal of all the prints, socialising with fellow photographers over a cuppa becomes possible, and the evening meal back at the hotel will no longer be a rushed affair. The competition’s early start should not eat into our photo opportunities in November although we are due for some sparkling late autumn weather this year.

Rooms at the Derwentwater Hotel have been put on hold for us for the Friday and Saturday at £47.00 per person per night, dinner bed & breakfast, pending our sending a deposit, as last year, by the end of May at the latest. As before, I will be happy to look after the block booking from North Cheshire and South Manchester members.

The more astute will notice the small increase from £45.00 last year. This is the best weekend rate we could negotiate, and I’m sure still represents great value for money considering the excellent food and facilities we enjoy at the Derwentwater.

This is becoming an established major event for the eight clubs involved and it is possible that demand for accommodation could stretch resources. A list will be started in March and a “first come first served” rule will be applied if necessary.

So, please be forthcoming with your requirements to avoid disappointment!
