This is the main event in our calendar, and has been for 58 years. We hold it in the Main Hall at Poynton Civic Centre each February. Our 2010 Exhibition, attended by more competing clubs than ever before, is now history. We are already discussing how to make the 2011 event an even greater success.

We showcase our members’ photography - in the form of both prints and projected images - totalling well over 300 all-new pictures for the acclaim of the local community as well as fellow photographers from similar clubs spread throughout the northwest. The mounted exhibition prints are displayed around the hall on illuminated stands whilst the projected images are rotated on strategically placed monitors during the three evenings of the exhibition.

In 2011, the year of the 60th anniversary of the club, the Exhibition will run from Wednesday 9th February to Friday 11th February.

On Wednesday 9th we shall again be holding our major inter-club print competition. This was innovative when we first held this competition for digital prints in 1998. We continue to innovate, using our custom software, the envy of other clubs, to project large images of the prints for the appraisal of the audience and to keep everyone up-to-date with the accumulated scores.

On Thursday 10th the prestigious inter-club projected image knock-out competition takes place. We began this competition in 1981. Originally for slides, now it is for projected digital images, using our state-of-the-art projection system and our custom software to show images calibrated for highest quality and to keep everyone informed of progress.

These competitions each attract an average of 25 leading clubs from throughout the northwest and beyond, giving rise to about 250 different competition images over the two nights. Consequently the 200+ chairs set out in the hall are generally fully occupied, mainly by discerning photographers from all the competing clubs who come along each year to be inspired by what they see. (The Civic Hall provides lots of free parking).

Although all the regularly participating clubs will be issued with the usual invitations in due course, may we suggest that the above dates be earmarked in your diary / club syllabus now, and interested members given early notification of the dates of these major competitions.

Friday Night Audience
"Friday Night is Music Night!"

On the Friday evening of recent exhibitions we have sought to attract a different audience with a musical evening, promoting local choirs and musicians with their surprisingly contrasting styles.

In 2011 we are debating whether to try something different. Whatever we decide, details will be announced in due course. Watch this space!
