Fifth ClubWorker Competition

Graham Johnston was the judge for this last competition of the session. He reminded members that judging was a subjective task and some personal bias was inevitable. Creative images were even more of a problem in that some images looked remarkably “creative” when in fact they were straight-forward shots, and the judge was not to know which. Graham had not seen the 68 prints or 24 slides in advance so proposed that he would go through them all once and then mark them on a second pass. His main comments were that the main subject must be sharp; that titles could sometimes help a judge assess an image; and that though a secondary consideration, borders could either help or mar an image.

In proposing the vote of thanks Phil Riley referred to the judge’s sense of humour and noted that the 40 or so members of the audience had warmed to his style.
