Studio Evening

Some 20 members and three visitors came equipped with cameras for a practical session. Geoff Robinson provided a studio flash, reflector and background set up for studio portraits. Our efforts to recruit a model for the session not having been successful, various members sat for portraits. Geoff advised on exposure setting and helped with posing the sitters. Quite unexpectedly, past president ‘Big Arthur’ Barrow walked through the door resplendent in his Chelsea Pensioner’s uniform complete with medals* and was easily persuaded to sit for his portrait.

Roger Dye had brought a tabletop photography set up (a poor man’s light tent made from a cardboard box) and a number of members tried photographing small objects under uniform all-round lighting. A demonstration of ‘tethered shooting’ with images appearing immediately in Photoshop Lightroom on a laptop computer was also provided.

The evening was judged a success, our visitors said they would return again and join next year, and unlike last year we did not trip the whole Civic Hall electrical supply. A similar session next year was requested by members present.

* Arthur was in the area to attend a parade function organised by the Royal British Legion.
