| Trip to Liverpool 6th June 2007 | ||||||||
|
Eight members, fitted into two cars for the trip to Liverpool. As arranged by Jon Allanson, we were met by our guide, Tony Myers, a member of South Liverpool Photographic Society for a photographic meander around the Docks and waterfront prior to a walk to the Protestant Cathedral for a lunch in the Refectory. The day was cloudless and warm with plenty of picture opportunities including colourful boats, reflections, and a peculiar Chinese art work? floating in the centre of the dock as well as the “Liverpool Duck”, a bright yellow amphibious vehicle which does tours of the city. |

| After lunch we ascended, by two lifts and stairs to the top of the tower for a grand scenic view of Liverpool. On the way down we inspected the Bells and the Tapestry Museum, and then joined Tony for a coffee above the shop. Onwards then to the Roman Catholic Cathedral, via Mr Hardman’s Photographic Studio at 59 Rodney Street. E Chambre Hardman was Liverpool’s best known portrait and landscape photographer. The elegant Georgian town house is managed by the National Trust; and it transpired that Tony Myers is a part-time NT guide there. We also passed the Philarmonic Building and visited the Gents Urinals in the Pub opposite an experience not to be missed Tony assured us. |

| The Catholic Cathedral is a complete contrast to the other one a light and airy interior filled with coloured light as the sun streamed through its many modern stained glass windows; with a delightful series of small chapels around the rim, containing sculptures and paintings/ drawings/ screens by local artists a photographers delight and a fitting end to the day. We left our guide outside the Cathedral as it was now late afternoon We thanked Tony for giving up his day and for his knowledge and sense of humour whilst showing us around his city and made our way back along Hope Street, down Duke Street to the cars near Albert Dock. | ||||||||
| The day had been pleasant and sunny continuously and Brian and Hilary, Frank and Margery, Colin, Jon A, Gordon and Bill felt it had been a day well spent.
