Motion to require the Committee to change and republish the rules for the 2011 Exhibition
As follows
Remove the option of entering slides in the Annual Exhibition.
(But film in general, and slides in particular, can continue to be used as source images for prints and projected digital images, subject to other rules).
Justification
The policy has been not to restrict the use of slides as long as members wanted to enter slides. But no slides were entered in the 2010 Exhibition.
There are advantages if no one enters, or can enter, slides in Exhibitions:
- The relevant trophies can be formally re-assigned specifically for PDIs.
(Some trophies are engraved with the word “Slide”).
The Exhibition rules say: “Trophies and Certificates of Merit will be awarded (subject to the Exhibition Rules) for: Best Print, Best Slide, and Best Projected Digital Image in each Advanced Category; Best Print, Best Slide, and Best Projected Digital Image in the Exhibition; Best Print, Best Slide, and Best Projected Digital Image by an Intermediate worker”. - There is no need to ensure that judges can cater for slides.
- The rules will be simplified.
- We can avoid the hassle of handling and projecting slides in addition to other display methods.
- There is potential for re-assignment or disposal of assets of the society used for display and projection of slides, depending on other resolutions.
(This motion will not cause the society’s slide scanner to be disposed of).
