| Projected Digital Image Interclub Competition with Wilmslow Guild | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Last year Geraldine Hillmer suggested a new projected digital image interclub competition between Wilmslow Guild PS and ourselves, and undertook that Wilmslow Guild would host the first event. The date of Wednesday 27th February was agreed. Barry Pearson negotiated with Wilmslow Guild and a match based on 30 images per club, not more that three from any one author, was agreed. Our entry was selected and as with the other recent digital image events, Barry ensured that all the images were presented in the required format (different to our own recent competition as Wilmslow’s digital projector has a lower resolution). A grand total of 17 NCPS members went to Wilmslow resulting in some reduction in the space between chair rows and the import of extra chairs! Wilmslow’s projection system worked well. All the images appeared clear and bright, and there were no obvious colour problems. The judge recruited by Wilmslow Guild was David Marsh who had ended his term as Immediate Past President of L&CPU on the previous Saturday. In introducing himself, David told us that he had not made the transition to digital and remained a traditional darkroom printer. He made useful comments on the images enlivened by many anecdotes but not all kinds of digital image or presentation appealed to him. In his first run through he marked all but 14 images. In the second stage of his judging he scored these and awarded a maximum 20 mark to the best image of each genre presented. It was evident even before Wilmslow gained five 20’s that NCPS were to maintain their recent level of success yet again! Whilst the arithmetic was completed, Tony Redford thanked Wilmslow for their hospitality and congratulated them on the smooth organisation of a previously untried event. The final score was announced revealing that we had finished runners-up by a margin of 44 marks. Before leaving, agreement was reached to hold a repeat match as part of our programme next session. The scores awarded to our images were as follows:
