Five clubs took part in this competition, which, this year was hosted by North Cheshire in the Club’s Council Chamber meeting room. Clubs had been asked to submit digital copies of their images for simultaneous viewing on the larger screen, whilst judge Dave Hollows of Sale Club considered the actual Prints on the Light Box. Additionally we provided the radio Microphone and a new speaker and amplifier system to ensure that all would hear the judge’s words of wisdom. The system worked well until the Amplifier developed a fault, and the judge was asked to continue without the microphone. It was clearly with some relief that Dave dispensed with the Mic! The Prints were all of a very high standard, surpassing in many people’s minds the standard set by the L&CPU competition of the previous week. The judge was careful to point out that his lower marks would simply be his attempts to differentiate between the high standard prints rather than a reflection of the standard of the prints themselves; and inevitably the judge’s predisposition would be a factor. He was careful to spend an equal time on each print, freely confessing when the aim of the author, in a particular composition, eluded him.. He managed to complete the process on time at 10.00pm aware that some visitor’s had a long journey home. From the several prints he set to one side as possible winners he chose Rusty Pipe by Patsy Prentice (S Liverpool Club) as the winner. North Cheshire were gratified to become the winning Club, and President Tony Redford was fulsome in his praise of the Judge’s perspicacity! Bill Chadband |
