| NCPS at Romiley Forum | |||||

Romiley Photo & Digital Imaging Club staged their annual exhibition of prints and projected images at the Forum last week and North Cheshire PS had an entry in both the inter-club print competition and inter-club knock-out slide competition held on the Thursday and Friday evenings respectively. There is always a homely atmosphere at Romiley due mainly to the relative small attendances. This was compounded this year by the almost total absence of NCPS members there, as a result of the holidays and other commitments of our regular supporters. Also, because of those holidays and other commitments, our selection committee were unable to meet in preparation for the Romiley competitions, so for our selections we had to fall back on a few “golden oldies” plus some very recent “quarterly” mentions which were otherwise untried. So how did we do? The five prints from each of the seven competing clubs on Wednesday were judged by L&CPU President, Gordon Jenkins. Marking out of 20 he found it impossible to award a mark of less than 16 and having extracted about a dozen of his favourites for marking 18, 19 & 20 at the end, this meant that the vast majority were squeezed into the 16, 17 and 18 range. Consequently, there was very little in it at the end when it came to totalling each clubs’ scores. Three prints were awarded 20, and Geoff Robinson’s “Guardian” was one of them. So, well done Geoff. Despite this, NCPS were pipped by just one point overall, finishing in second place with Bramhall PS coming out as winners. The knock-out slide competition on Friday was judged by Bob Dennis from Bebbington. In contrast, his approach was outspoken and decisive and he wasted no time in despatching in the early rounds a good number of the 63 slides submitted by 9 clubs. He had no trouble in whittling the entry down to just four surviving slides in the final round, Phil Riley’s “Misty Waters” was one of them. Well done Phil. Again, despite this, NCPS finished a disappointing 5th overall, with 85 Group taking first place. Well done to the Romiley team in organising the smooth running of these events. They really deserve to be better supported. Tony Redford |
