The Anglo-Scottish Interclub Battle 2006

We had a good turnout for this annual event, both in terms of NCPS members and audience generally, such that the Portinscale Village Hall was crammed full and the organisers may have to start looking for bigger premises. The move to an earlier starting time of 4.00pm made the event a more sociable one, with tea and biscuits available both before and after the competition. Having been judged, the prints were laid out on side tables (one table for each club) allowing the audience a close-up view of prints more dimly perceived from the back during the judging. Eric Bower, our Edinburgh judge, was sympathetic to digital prints but keen to point out the failings apparent in PhotoShop manipulation. All the prints received informed comment before the mark was pronounced, and the standard was again very high. When the marks were added together Dumfries CC and Carluke PS were equal first place with 275 points; NCPS was close behind with 272 points. The other marks were Tynside Digital IG 269, West Cumbria PG 268, Keswick CC 256, S Manchester PS 255, and Hartlepool P & DG 250. Tony Potter gave a vote of thanks to the judge and to Jack Bamford for his work in arranging the competition. The event concluded at about 6.00pm giving those staying at the Derwentwater Hotel ample time to stroll back and have a wash and a drink before the 7.40pm dinner.

The Derwentwater Hotel surpassed itself this time by giving Bill Chadband a Premier room (109) on the first floor. The room fridge contained water, fruit juice, and Milk, whilst the sherry decanter was full. Bill’s big regret was that there was still some sherry in the decanter when he left. The meals were up to their usual high standard, and an added bonus was the free bottle of wine on the first evening (to those making their third visit!)

Bill observed the following NCPS members during the weekend: Brian Turnbull and Hilary; Tony and Mary Rosevere; Colin Pickles, Roger Dye, Tony and Dorothy Redford, Joyce and Gordon Robson, Barry Pearson, Dave Akers, John Garner and Katie, Frank and Marjory Hutchinson, Joyce Streets, Hugh Oldham, Bromage and Jackie, Alan Wild and Val, Jonathan Bawden and Rachel, Bill Chadband and Milly. Most people, on the Saturday morning, went on the Boat trip to the far end of the Lake and walked back alongside the Lake. The weather, though overcast, was not cold. Those present pronounced the weekend another rousing success. The NCPS print scores are listed below:
