Committee reports

Bill Chadband

Committee Meeting 27 January 2011

It had been decided to have two new trophies (for Best Printworker and Best PDI worker of the Year). Geoff Robinson produced the two shields he had purchased for inspection.

Much of the meeting was taken reviewing plans for the forthcoming Annual Exhibition. Setting up would be at after noon on the Wednesday 9th February, when as many members as possible were invited to help. It was agreed that Bill Chadband would buy extra transparent pins for mounting the prints on the 18 Stands. Only about 144-150 prints could be displayed. Many of the others would form the basis of a concurrent exhibition in the nearby Poynton Library.

L&CPU President Christine Widdall would formally open the Exhibition and present the trophies for the Best PDI, the Best Print, and the Best overall Performance. It was agreed that we should ask Judge Keith Brown to present the rest of the Trophies when he visited the club on the 22nd February. Noted that MATES have 30 tickets (at £5) and a poster for the Friday event. Tickets on the Door cost £6.Katie Garner had agreed to sell the 3-day £7 tickets. Roger Dye subsequently agreed to sell the Friday advance tickets to interested members. Paula Martin again agree to is look after the Raffle and collect suitable prizes from members. It was proposed that they be charged at £1 a strip. Bill Chadband agreed to call the Raffle on the night. More Prizes were needed. Richard Scaife agreed to get 300 copies of the Catalogue printed once Bill Chadband had finished it.

Tony Redford has produced a Pictures to Exe show of the PDIs for the Exhibition. The Catalogue will reflect the running order. Tony also reported on the two Club Competitions, 21 clubs appeared ready to compete on the Wednesday and 29 on the Thursday. This year he was asking the Wednesday Print competition clubs to provide their own digital copies for us to project.

David and Lynda Hockin have agreed to organise the Refreshment Rota for the three nights. Geoff Robinson would ensure that the Cups/ Biscuits Tea/Coffee/Squash/Milk were available.

The Exhibition will be taken down on the Saturday Morning. Bill Chadband will retain the Prints; reorganise them into Author Wrappings and deliver them on the Tuesday 22nd Feb. for the Judge’s comments. Members will be asked to select one or two images on which they would like the judges remarks, Additionally Keith Brown has asked that we keep the Winners separate, as he would like to comment on some of them. The Post-Exhibition Lunch at the Beijing Restaurant on Sunday 13th February is being organized by Colin Pickles, who needs to know numbers by the 8th Feb. Judge Keith Brown and his wife Kate will attend.

Syllabus Secretary: Graham noted that next year’s syllabus was mostly completed. He had four “big name “external” speakers. For 5th April he proposed a “Be a Judge” evening when members would vote on images presented, and then in the second half discuss the results and how they actually differed from the external judge’s marking for the image. Graham would collect images towards the end of March for this purpose.

Publicity Secretary: John Garner reviewed the list of Magazines and newspapers (Stockport What’s On; Inside Poynton; Poynton WEB) he had been in contact with.

Selection Committee Chair: Phil Riley noted that he needed to select the Images for NCPS entry into our two competitions. He could make a start on Sunday, but we were loath to remove Prints from the Stands during the Exhibition/ He would ask Authors to make a second copy of any selected Prints. For the Chapel Contest on Wed 16th Feb. we needed 10 Prints and 10 PDI’s Graham would check with Chapel the Rules for this event (ie How many images per person allowed?)

Website and Computing: Suggested that we change the Home Page Image more regularly (Weekly, or Fortnightly?) Also should we have images of all the committee on the WEB page for the convenience of members

Membership Secretary: Jill Hargreaves reported that we now have 80 members (though fortunately not all attend regularly!) 45 seemed to be our average, though we had 57 bodies last week;

Equipment Bookings: Roger has the Spyder, Frank the Scanner, Tony the Lap-top , and Roy Cheetham the lights. Agreed we would not purchase a Loupe, but agreed that we should purchase a small LCD screen to go with the Shuttle, to obviate problems visiting speakers have had and to ease operator problems during club use. Roger Dye has since reported the purchase of a Dell monitor.

Social Secretary: Colin reported that 19 People were going to Paris, (11 of them to the Follies!)

Derwentwater, November 2011: Tony noted that there would be 4 single rooms. Barry immediately booked one of them!

Date of next meeting = 20th April 2011 at the President’s House 7.30pm start.
