The Committee Meeting 7th November  2007

Annual Exhibition 2008

The judges have all been booked; L&CPU President Gordon Jenkins has been invited to open the exhibition and present the club certificates. Barry Pearson has sent out invitations to 38 clubs re the Digital Print and Projected Digital Image inter-club competitions, and awaits replies. For the Friday “Music at an Exhibition” night Poynton High School Concert band, and Fosbrooks Folk Education Trust have been invited. It is proposed that the Concert band will play for ¾ hour before the interval. After a long interval for refreshments and more picture viewing, Fosbrook Folk will entertain with their Folk Music and traditional Clog stepping dances. It has been agreed that will offer prints for sale. The appropriate price (or NFS notice) will appear in the catalogue. Members will be asked to supply this information when they fill in the forms for the Exhibition. The refreshments interval will also be a time when the audience can purchase their prints (Note 20% of sale price goes to the club as commission!.

Selection Committee report

Jon Bawden recapped on imminent external competitions, including the L&CPU interclub Slide Knockout Competition on Saturday 24th November which NCPS is hosting (and providing the refreshment!); and the Martin Avery Competition on Tuesday 27th November which this year NCPS are also hosting.

Jon suggested that for the Digitally Projected image completion hosted by Southport Club we should try the new approach of opening our selected images for critical judgement by the wider club membership before the images are finalised. In this way we would try to anticipate judge’s comments and alleviate any obvious criticisms; and in the process provide useful feedback to all club members on what to avoid, and how to win in competitions. It is likely that other clubs do this anyway, although they might keep quiet about the process.

Club Competitions

Barry Pearson reported that Mike Lawrence would judge the 3rd Club Competition on 11th Dec. Dave Holland would judge the Martin Avery Competition.

Publicity

Jill Hargreaves was sending information to What’s On in Poynton; Poynton Post and other local outlets. We needed A4 three-folds to fit in Library etc. spaces. Frank reported that the WEB site was working well for us – a member had recently joined after consulting the RPS and being invited to look at the WEB site. Agreed that those prints not hung at the Annual Exhibition through lack of space be hung as part of the concurrent Library exhibition

Membership

Tony Rosevere reported that we had 14 new members. He needed another 10 copies of the Syllabus. An updated membership list was being prepared, though there were likely to be errors due to the difficulty of reading some of the application forms.

Colin Pickles reported that he had 15 definite travellers to Berlin next May.

Tony Redford reported that the Lakes competition next year would be on 8th/9th November 2008.

The next committee meeting was set for Wednesday 9th January 2008 at 53 Cavendish Rd (Tony & Dorothy’s house). Dorothy was thanked for providing the lavish refreshment (Tea/ coffee/ Lemon Cake/ Fruit cake!)
