At this first meeting of the new committee the suggestion of our Annual Exhibition judge that we have one Open section was discussed. It was argued that members would be able to submit their best (8?) prints rather than having to find prints that fitted the available categories. We would no longer get the judges comment that “it was a good print, but in the wrong section and therefore did not do as well as it might have done”. One reason for retaining the categories had been that we had trophies to allot to the winners of each category. However David Butler had suggested that judges would still be willing to assign “best print in that category” so long as the Club clearly defined what it meant by each category. Natural History was a special case in that it was not necessarily clear whether or not the subject matter qualified as Natural history; eg was the Wild animal really in the wild, or in the local zoo? It would be necessary for the author of the image to certify that it was truly Natural History. This certification could be carried on the back of a Print, but would need a separate document in the case of a slide. The committee agreed to support this modification to the rules and to put it to members at an EGM at the start of next session. Richard Scaife reported that the Civic Hall now had a regular booking on the Wednesday morning, and that we would have to put up the Exhibition on the Wednesday afternoon. The Exhibition Stands were quite old and Richard queried if we should be replacing them. Geoff Robinson reported that we were seeking a grant which included new stands. Meanwhile it was agreed that we should repaint the present ones (in a uniform grey colour?) Bill Chadband would see if we could book Hawk Green Reading Room for Saturday/Sunday sessions to allow this. Colin Pickles agreed to research destinations of Jet2.com in order to facilitate a better choice of where our next overseas jaunt might be. Joyce Robson would book the Bowling club for our next seasons Digital Course. It was clear that members and would-be visitors would welcome a Syllabus outlining the proposed series of talks. A sub-committee has been set up to consider this. |
