Selection Committee Report

With Competition Secretary Roger Dye still on the Isle of Wight and Gordon Robson and Bill Chadband in the USA, our selection committee, which gathered on Friday last (6/10) consisted of just three members, Brian Turnbull, Barry Pearson and Tony Redford. We were confronted with a mound of prints and a number of digital files as well as slides, mainly from the 1st Quarterly, from which to select for those major external competitions coming up very soon. All the prints and slides from Q1 had been made available to us from the 22 members who had submitted to it, and much additional work was also in evidence as a result of our requests over the past couple of weeks.

Although the sheer volume of material slowed down the process of selection of course, we did ask for it, and it is very gratifying that so many members came up with their work. An added complication was the “overlapping” of the various events meaning that some work would be away at one venue, making it unavailable for others for which it might otherwise have been selected. Also, some submissions were required in digital form in advance, some required just prints in advance and others needed a list in advance plus prints on the day. After about four hours we called it a day, having prioritised the most pressing deadlines.

Hopefully the selections we made will do justice to the high standard of material from which we had to choose. Thanks to everyone for that. From this point on we are in the hands of the various judges who will undoubtedly do their best to prove we got it all wrong.

Here are the selections we made:-
